Why I became a health counselor!
I first started reading about nutrition in 1971 when I decided to become a vegetarian, and wanted to approach vegetarianism not with pizza, pasta, bagels and french fries as many of my friends were doing but with a more serious approach based on good nutrition. Much later when I discovered a catalog for the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, I was pleasantly surprised to find many of the authors that I had read were guest lecturers and teachers in their program. I received a certification as a holistic health counselor from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in June 2003, in the study of Eastern and Western Nutrition, dietary theories, contemporary health studies and health counseling.
My approach to diet.
Health is a state of balance, and that balance is usually unique to the individual. Finding the right nutritional balance is a self-discovery process. I have always been athletic and maintained a fairly good diet (I thought!), but when I began to seriously study nutrition and found new ways to experiment with food, dietary approaches, health and wellness ideas, it was such a profound and gratifying change that I want to share it with everyone. I practice a holistic approach to health and wellness, which means that I look at how all areas of your life are connected. Does stress at your job or in your relationship cause you to overeat? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? I listen intently to what you have to say about your health, which allows us to work together to see how all parts of your life affect your health as a whole.I will guide you to find the food and lifestyle choices that best support you. I will also help you to make gradual, lifelong changes that enable you to reach your current and future health goals.
